Past "Un" Wellness Workshop Speakers
Speakers Become Colleagues
At the Wellness Underground Workshop it has been our goal to bridge the gap between esteemed and "successful" professionals, vendors, connected consultants and everyday "wellness" people. For real now, we are all playing in the same sandbox! Let's help each other build our sandcastles. When we bring speakers and attendees together, you almost don't know who is who. Our speakers are part of the overall workshop and are accessible to the attendees pretty much the whole time. They join in the breakout working groups to contribute, problem solve and network. We are all on a first name basis and formal titles are checked at the door.
At the workshop, we have a couple Headline Speakers who have a certain topic and message that is connected to our overall theme. For our first workshop in 2015 Marie-Josee Shaar was one of our Headline Speakers and a fabulous contributor to all of the conversation and events.
At each workshop we have a few speakers up our sleeves. Sometimes it is a well know individual in a specific industry and sometimes it is someone fairly unknown. For the opening talk in 2016 we were thrilled to have Ryan Picarella from WELCOA as our surprise opening speaker.
Speaker Becomes Attendee
It is a pretty big compliment when a Headline Speaker wants to come back the next year as an attendee! Especially when that person is what some people would refer to as the "father of the industry" for wellness and wellbeing. Dr. Dee Edington was one of our Headline Speakers at our first workshop in 2015. He had such a great time and we loved having him be part of our workshop! In 2016 he joined us again...but this time as an attendee. Right along side newbies in the wellness industry, he offered advice, jokes (you have no idea what quick wit he has!) and expertise--while at the same time learning from others.
[SIX-FORTY] Peer Presentations
In 2016 we introduced peer presentations and it was a big hit! These peer presentations were short and sweet, packed a lot of passion and the attendees loved learning from their peers. We are all about leveling the playing field and learning from each other and this was a great way to aim for that goal. Some of the peer presentors used their [Six-Forty] presentation as a jumping off point to build a bigger presentation to use later in the year at their own personal events. We love playing a role in sparking that!
Everyone Is A Power Player
Whether you know it or not, there are quite a few important people in this picture above. Shown here are mentors, authors, teachers, speakers, leaders, coaches, experts and most of all, real people with a heartbeat who have a pulse on the wellness industry and beyond. When they aren't speaking at the workshop, they are having coffee with fellow attendees, connecting with each other, chatting it up with everyone in the room, sharing ideas, offering inspiration and even walking away inspired and challenged!
Bringing The Outside World In
There is much to be learned and our industry is continually evolving and expanding, so far be it from us to think that we can only learn from those inside our industry! In 2016 we reached outside of the "health and wellness" industry to bring a different view point with two headline speakers that really have nothing to do with wellness. As you can see in the picture above, Drew Neisser and Geno Church fit in just fine with the rest of our "wellness crew". We love out of the box thinking and ideas and Drew and Geno brought us more than one out of the box perspectives of untypical marketing and word of mouth passion that could be directly related to those working in the wellness industry.
